If they are or were rural women, check out Linoleum, better babies & the modern farm woman: 1890-1930 by Marilyn Irvin Holt. She describes the Domestic Economic Movement, which was education aimed at women concerning “saving time and money, preventing disease, and creating an attractive home.”

She sets this movement in the context of other movements and changes happening at the time: New Woman, Outdoor Girl, scientific farming, labor-saving machines for house and farm, electricity, telephones, radios, indoor plumbing…

We see the creation of 4 H, the home extension agent, and more.

This book is in the Chilson Collection in the Archives and Special Collections.
